Raccoon Attack , Baby Kittens and Thrift Shopping

The kids and I went to several thrift stores today in search of kids clothing. My kids have outgrown a lot of their winter clothing and being a growing family on a tight budget can be difficult and stressful. We managed to find some of the items on our list from the thrift stores. The only things we still need of several pairs of pants for Ashley, which I found on Ebay and I bid $5 per pair on them. I hope to win at least a few pairs of them, as she really needs them. Also, I need to take the kids to Target and get them a few new pjs. Then, I will be finished.
Today, we got up this morning and heard kittens crying outside. Come to find out the mom cat had be attacked by the wild coyotes and her kittens were left abandoned. We took them and drove them to the humane society. One of the was pure black and the other was black and white. Poor things, I bet they got cold at night.
Lastly, a few minutes ago I stepped outside and two huge raccoons were behind me. Trash was everywhere. Eventally, they had gotten into our trash and had a party. After I started cleaning up the mess, they just sat their watching me work and eventually they climbed up the trees.

Halloween treat prep, San Francisco?, Ebay stuff, and Knitting

Today we got the kid's homeschool group Halloween treat bags ready that we are gonna pass out. We got cute Halloween pencils, erasers, candy, and glow bracelets to hand out in little paper Halloween bags. We have also cleaned up outside and put the summer-time plants away, due to their beginnings of seasonal death. Christian contacted another traveling agency today. He said they have jobs in San Francisco that we may be interested in taking in a few weeks. The contract here in Southern California is over Dec.1st.
Today we had dinner while watching the debates and then I cleaned up the kitchen. Now we are just having a few glasses of wine and I'm fixing to read to the kids before they get tucked into bed. Christian isn't feeling well today. He has been complained that his jaw is hurting since this morning and he turned down steak this evening, which tells me that it must be really painful, because he loves steak.
I mailed off the 1st package sold on Ebay today of the kid's clothes. The 2nd was paid via an e-check so that one will be mailed off later this week. The women's clothing couldn't be mailed off because I discovered that it would take several boxes to fit it all in and that would cause me to actually lose money, which I would never agree to do, so I refunded their payment and explained the situation.
I am continuing to practice my knitting each night and seem to get a bit more comfortable with it each day. It can be difficult with my OCD because I seemed to have skipped one stitch early in the job and every time I notice or think about it, it bothers me, but I have not restarted the entire thing, but continue to press on and practice more, telling myself that I am not making anything special, but only practicing. I have to press on if I plan to learn about the knit socks and fingerless gloves in the near future. Both those items would be wonderful to be able to knit for use in Northern California, whether it be Eureka or San Francisco.

Learning to knit again, crocheting along, and Homeschool Halloween Party

I was just retaught how to knit a basic stitch and cast on yesterday by my friend at park day, Stephanie. She even loaned me a ball of yarn and connected needles to practice with. :) I am also excited about next park day with the homeschool group here because we are having a Halloween party. We will all be bring a potluck item and a bag of candy to pass out to the kids who will be "trick or treating" to each parent. They are also going to be doing various crafts and games. My kids are really excited because they get to go in their costumes.
I plan on knitting at least one or two rows each night for practice so that I don't forget. Then working a while on our crocheted blanket, which is coming along great. I cannot wait until I get good enough to knit socks and fingerless gloves, which we will be able to use a lot in Northern California. It is usually pretty chilly by the coast and those are quite expensive to purchase at the store completely knitted.
We went to see the Black Knight yesterday afternoon at the cheap theater. We hadn't been to see a movie in a while so it was really nice. Then we went next door to the large Hispanic grocery store because they had a one day sale on chicken legs. We got like 10 pds. of chicken legs to BBQ for like $8. We had mashed potatoes and salad wedges along with them. It was yum, plus a really nice meal on a budget. We also have a bunch of chicken legs leftover, although I am not much of a meat person, unless it is homemade burgers or porterhouse steak, which is the best. Although, porterhouse is quite pricey, so we cannot do that too often.
So, I am including a picture of my beginnings of my knitting and what I have completed on my blanket.

Movies and Emotions on Family

Today we rented a few Redbox movies and watched one with the kids. I crocheted a few rows on our blanket while watching the movie. We have basically had a lazy "hang out at home" day. Tomorrow will be a bit more busy. We are going to the homeschool group weekly park day to let the kids socialize with other kids for a few hours. We are planning on running into the large Hispanic grocery store because they have a sale on chicken legs for like 79 cents a pound. I am planning on making mashed potatoes and veggies to go along with them. We are also planning on taking the kids to see a movie. Caleb won 2 free movie tickets a few weeks ago, so it will be less costly, plus I got the movie candy for the kids from Walmart to take to the movie, instead of buying their expensive candy. You can get a box of the same candy or chocolate for 98 cents what you would pay $4.00 at the theater for. We usually get a few sodas and a popcorn, so they still make a bit of money off us, only because I can't sneak that stuff in.
My clothing lots on Ebay all have bids but one lot, so most of them will be being mailed off on Friday, along with our absentee ballots. Right now the bids are around $5.50 per lot, but hopefully this last 19 hours will be where I will see the move increase in price. I could really use the money to put towards some new winter clothes for the kids. Unlike most kids, my kids just don't have all the grandparents who fork out money or time with my kids to take them shopping. Sometimes, I feel a bit jealous and cheated by hearning about others parents taking them out shopping and doing all this fun stuff with their grandkids, but I suppose such is life. Two of my children's grandparents aren't alive anymore and the other two have nothing to do with them at all. My kids are quite cheated, but I can only hope that they don't know that. My own grandmother, their great grandmother, tries to fill in the gaps that remain for them.

Halloween Decor and Pumpkin Bread

Today I was planning on taking the kids to a few thrift stores around the city. Well, that was kind of a flop because the few thrift stores that I found were so creepy with bar all over their windows and punk guys hanging around outside that I didn't think it wise to bother with it. I have decided that I will stick with going to Target, Kohl's, Ross, and Children's Place for the kids clothes that they will need for this fall/winter. I would love to save money, but my daughter is already hard to fit and I'm sure that those type of thift stores just won't cut it.
So, after giving up on thift stores, we ran into the Dollar Tree and got a few $1 Halloween decorations. I found these cute blow up decorations to hang from the RV ceiling. We got a blow up bat, a spider, a jack o latern, and skeleton. I also got a bag of fake spider webbing that included 4 fake spiders. I grabbed a thing of colored construction paper for the kids for school while I was there and a box of privacy envelopes for mailing bills off. My total was only $7. I went by the Starbucks drive thru and got the kids a Frappicino to split and a small pumpkin spice one for me and we went home. The kids finished their schoolwork while I put up the decorations. We even have fake spiderwebs and spiders outside under the gazebo.
After the hubby went off to work, I finished social studies and art with the kids, washed dishes, folded and put up clothes and then made pumpkin bread for breakfast tomorrow and to warm the RV before bedtime. I'm just waiting on it to cool down so that I can put the loaf pan lid on it.
I have included pics of the decorations and of the queen size single crochet blanket I am working on for our bed. I only have the first full line completed. It will be a long project. Enjoy!!!

Ebay, Weather and Crocheting

We've been busy over the past several days. Several nights ago I was up with the kids until nearly 11pm going through their last years winter clothing with them. They have outgrown a lot of their clothing and so I put all of their winter clothing in lots on Ebay to try and make a little money to put towards the clothing I will need to get for them this winter. There clothing isn't cheap as they get older. So far all three winter lots have had their first bid, so it can only get better from here.

The weather here is in between fall and summer and it cannot decide which way to go yet. The last few days the highs were in the 60s and this week the highs are in the high 80's or low 90's. It makes it difficult when you only have so much room for clothing inside the RV and you need to store off-season clothing in the storage outside in the storage areas below. Hopefully we will switch to fall-like weather soon.

So, we have decided how we want to do our queen sized crocheted blanket. We have chosen the yarn and we have decided that it will be single crocheted instead of double crocheted. It will take a lot longer then a double crocheted blanket, but it will be thicker and warmer. We will have to get the yarn a few skeins at a time from JoAnn's because we cannot afford all the yarn needed at once. Good thing their is a JoAnn's here and in NorCal.

Well, I better get off here for now. I need to get started homeschooling and working on the laundry for the day.

Halloween Fun and Muddy Mess !!!!

Last night the kids and I did a few Halloween crafts to decorate the RV main room. We made Halloween cupcakes together and they loved decorating one of them by themselves. Before bedtime, I read them a chapter in the 3rd book of the Rats of Nimh series that we have been reading together for several months. I felt bad because I couldn't afford to take them to Six Flags on the Homeschool day when it is cheaper to go for Homeschooled kids. Even with the cheaper tickets, the cost would still be $125 with parking. It's just not in our budget.
Yesterday, the kids also played in the sand and mixed it with water and made lots and lots of mud! They made mud pies and mud cookies. There was mud on the table cloth and mud all over the outdoor carpets. It was a real mess, but I was just glad that they were being kids and having a good time. I went outside after they were finished and hosed them down and put them in the shower. Then I went outside and hosed their sandals off, hosed the table and the carpets, along with all their sand toys.
The weather was awesome today with a high of 76 degrees, along with a light breeze. Right now at 8pm it is wonderful outside. We are sharing a bottle of Refresh Turning Leaf Red Moscato 2011 California right now. It is our favorite wine, plus it's a red wine so it's the best for us. My hubby was supposed to go to work tonight, but was cancelled, so we are spending some time together.
Below are pictures of the kids finished crafts, cupcakes and their muddy play time...enjoy!!!

Great School Day, Grilling Out, Crocheting Blanket Plans and Neighbor

Today we had a good school day and the kids got all of their schoolwork done by 3:30pm. I woke my hubby up and started the grill to get it ready for burgers and hotdogs. I made some baked beans to go with them. He is outside grilling them now and I cannot wait for dinner because I'm hungry.
The kids are loving learning typing this year online. They have almost finished learning all of the home row keys.
My neighbor in this RV park started watering her lot this morning. She also racked a deep trench around the tall tree stump in front of her RV and all along the side of her RV. She filled the trench full of water multiple times and proceeded to water the tree stump from top to bottom. She must have watered her entire lot at least 30 times. She also sprayed off her vehicle multiple times and even watered the ground under her RV and under her vehicle. She literally had her hose on running water at jet speed for 3 hours today. It was a bit distracting to the kids because I couldn't get them to stop peeking out the windows and giggling. I think that they actually enjoyed watching her because it was funny.
My husband and I have been trying to figure out what the ideal yarn for the queen sized blanket I plan to crochet for our bed will be. We are trying to find something we will enjoy, but that will also be affordable. The Alpaca mix yarn that we have found online is really nice and thick, but unfortunately it is too expensive. If we choose to go with something like that it would cost nearly $500, which is ridiculus. I am probably going to go with a wool brand that I saw in Walmart and Michaels that was much more affordable. $100-$150 for a queen sized blanket for our bed would be much more manageable and I hope to find it in bulk online for even less.
I want to thank all of my friends for reading my blog and for clicking on an ad on the side or bottom of my blog after reading it. That really helps me out to be able to stay home with my children because I get paid a little each time someone checks out an ad. I hope you all have a nice evening.

Fuel Panic, Tree Frogs, Curriculum, and Cooler Temps!

Yesterday was stressful because of the gas panic at the gas station due to the long lines of people afraid of rising prices and gas shortages in the Cali. I looked on Gas Buddy this morning and as far as I can tell the prices are the same today as they were yesterday. It looks as if gas is only around $5 in some places in Hollywood/Santa Monica Blvd. area. After getting gas yesterday, I went to Target and picked up stuff for dinner for the next few days. I got a Feta Cheese, Spinach and Tomato pizza and and Tomato, Basil and Cheese pizza and I plain cheese pizza for the kids. I also got stuff for hamburgers, although I got the meat and the meat deli store down the road. I refuse to buy my ground meat at a regular grocery store because I am afraid of pink slime. Ashley also found a cute Jansport backpack that she had been wanting that was clearanced from $30 to $4. I let her get it because she has been wanting it for weeks.
I moved my 2 tree frogs that hitched a ride with us from NorCal to SoCal inside in the terrarium setup. They seem very happy. They are very active little things and they love relaxing in the their water dish. I have to be careful when I open the door because on of the loves to jump out over and over. I went and got crickets for them and as soon as I put them in there, one of the little guys ate one. I am honestly shocked that they survived as long as they had outside in the desert summer heat. If it hadn't been for my pots outside with water in them, they more then likely would have died. Those guys require a moist environment, which is why they thrive so much in NorCal. The kids and I went on a river hike while in NorCal and caught 30 of them at one time. They are everywhere up there.
So, today has went good so far. The laundry is done and outside drying. The AC is on today so no one is overheated. We had sandwiches for lunch. I made bananna nut muffins and scrambled eggs for breakfast for the kids. Math and English are done so far and as soon as this blog is done, we will start another subject. The kids have many subjects in order to be well rounded. They have Math, Science, Social Studies, Writing, Spelling, Reading, Grammer, Cursive, Typing, and Art. They also have many extra curricular learning activities on the side. I also bought them both Preteen growing up type health books that I have begun reading to them. Just because we homeschool does not mean that they cannot learn as much or more then a child attending a public or private school. I suppose that is why I was so irritated after checking out the K12 online program a few days ago. They told me that for the basic 4 subjects it would be $1200-$5000 per child depending if you went on your own or if you did their private school option. I was like, "WTF!". First of all, I would never pay that and second, my kids need a more quality education then that. They gave me a "trial" membership to their website and I was not impressed at all. I might consider it if it was free and then I would only consider it. I do know that I MUST use a fully accredited curriculum with my children throughout high school years in order for them to be accepted into any college or University of their choice. I would never inhibit my child's future like that. Luckly, if they choose to continue homeschooling when we settle down, there are several accredited homeschooling programs available. Although, in my option, they seem to overcharge.
Lastly, over the next few days, it will began cooling down here in the daytime. I cannot wait for highs in the 70's! Only a couple of days away, literally! Oh, also I am several chapters into the 2nd book in the Fifty Shades Trilogy. The second book is even better! I cannot wait until the 3rd! I will be really upset when I finish them. I have fallen in love with Christian Gray, lol.  I better end this blog for now and began our next subject of the day. Enjoy your day friends!

Fall Colors, Night Spider, etc..

I am looking forward to watching the debate tonight. It should be interesting watching Romney make a fool of himself in front of the American people again. I am glad Christian is off so that he can watch it also.
So, last night I had a horrible thing happen. I woke up freaking out at like 2am. I swore I saw a big ass spider hanging on the wall beside me in bed. I jumped up and flipped on the light. Christian didn't know what to think. He looked all around the wall and in the bed and nothing. After about one hour of being up and trying to calm myself, I was able to get back in bed. I finally figured out what happened. There is a border that runs around our living area and bedroom. It is like pictures of vines with leaves in black. I must have saw that along with the moonlight from our open window and "saw" a spider. Needless to say, I need some coffee, lol.
Homeschool park day is tomorrow and another homeschooling mom is bringing me some books she doesn't want anymore. One is a Harcourt History book, one is a NASA dvd and workbooks, and the others are a few various writing books. I am planning on bringing a few things for the other moms as well. Educational things from the mail from various organizations...sometimes they send to many. Also, a woman in the homeschool group is wanting to help me learn how to knit. I'm nervous and excited about that as well. I wouldn't care if it was knitting or crocheting, but making fingerless gloves and socks would be great regardless.
I got our Urban Birds Kits in the mail a few days ago. They were neat. There were two small posters, a sticker, a packet of sunflower seeds, and few other things. You can list which birds you spot outside and mail a form back to them so they can have the new data to help keep track of the birds. I took a pic of what came in the kit and will show you below.
Lastly, we took some nice pics of the field beside the RV park. The desert bushes and plants are beginning to turn colors. There are also a few pics of that as well and I stuck a cute one of my puppy as well.  Enjoy your day friends!

Hike and Hair-Do

So, yesterday evening the kids and I walked across the street to hike up the rocky hill. It was a lot more trashed then the last time we were here a few years ago. There was even an old broken couch and a huge amount of crap up there. We didn't stay long cause it freaked out the kids and the sun was going down, so we hiked down and back over to the RV park. We saw a plant that was white and black striped and really crazy looking. I also noticed a cave like spot up in the hillside. I will have pics of the hike and the plant below.
Later that night, I let the kids "fix" my hair. They had a blast with it, but I must say, the hair was special, lol. I will put a pic of the hair-do below.
So, over the last few days the kids got all of their schoolwork done on time and they have now completed 42 days of school so far, but they probably do much more work then public school kids do. I have them beginning to learn typing and a bit less cursive each day to save time. I figure that typing is a little more important now days then cursive, but they still do one page of cursive practice each day.
As a reward for completing their schoolwork on time this week, we ordered delivery from Dominos this evening. I also made it to Target today and looked at the clearance shoe section. They needed new sandals, as the ones they have were starting to wear out. I found my son a pair of sandals that were originally $24 on clearance for $6. I found Ashley a pair of sandals, although boy's blue/black ones, in her size for only $4, that were originally $15. The selection left was very small, the deals were great. Two new pairs for only $10.
Tonight, I am just having a glass of wine and chilling with the fam...fixing to put the kids in bed and relax with my hubby, crochet, read and watch NCIS with him. He is off and home for 5 nights !!!! That makes me very happy.

Time....

Time is becoming an issue. It seems that I am working from when I get up in the morning to nearly bedtime doing house chores, homeschooling, etc. I wish I had some time for myself to just read some in my book or just have a glass of wine and chill, but, alas, reality is what it is. So, this is why I haven't blogged in a few days.

So, we went to the stupid laundry mat this morning and got caught up on laundry and washed the rugs from inside the RV. My son was being defiant while we were there and running from me declaring that he was not going to do his math but that he was planning to throw the book into the trash. I told him that if he did he would greatly regret it when we got home. Needless to say, he decided after I ignored him for a few minutes, to sit down and complete his math work. =)

This morning we ran to 7 Eleven for our free large coffee before heading to the laundry mat. Caleb enjoyed getting an Obama cup, lol. I still need to run to the meat store to pick up hamburger meat for burgers for dinner. I also need to start the grill in a while also. I am seriously hoping that they cancel my hubby from work tonight. They probably won't and I will need to homeschool again tomorrow. I could never be so lucky.

We enjoyed the homeschool group park day yesterday. There were a huge number of families there and tons of kids....more then usual. The kids had a blast playing and I had another homeschooling mom that is insistent that I learn not only how to knit, but that I learn how to knit fingerless gloves and socks also. I would love to be able to do that, but, omg, knitting stuff like that seems so outta my reach. I can crochet large blankets, scarfs, and very basic hats and that is IT. We will see. She may give up after working with me a bit....lol.

Computer crisis and dinner delight

Today we ran to the Hispanic grocery store and got a huge amount of chicken on special for like $11 along with two huge sweet potatoes. We got home and our daughter accidentally knocked the laptop off onto the floor and busted the screen. We have not planned on getting a laptop today but we went to Best Buy and found an Asus like our old one only a new version for $299. We got a wireless keyboard for the other one and used an hdmi cable to run it over our living room tv as a backup computer since its screen is broken.
My husband is now making homemade strawberry lemonade in the kitchen and just let me try it. It was actually pretty good.
Lastly, today the idiot religious freaks in the back of this RV park evidentally let there small dogs out with no leashes to run outside the park in the field. I saw them and was concerned they would get eaten by a coyote and tried to catch them with treats, but couldn't. They ran up near the road and around the entire park. I gave up and talked to a mantainance guy working here. He described the dogs and said they were the preacher guy's dogs from the back of the park. Lovely, not only are those religious freaks registered sex offenders, but they also do not properly care for their pets. Some people do not deserve to be near children or animals. Grr.
Below are pics of our huge amount of chicken and sweet potatoes....also a pic of our broken computer screen.

Homeschooling, Fall changes, and Amazon order.

So, my kiddos have done 4 days of school over the past 4 days. Our school week is whatever days my hubby works and not when public school is in session. So, I made them a deal that if they completed 4 days worth of each of their subjects that they would get clearance dart guns that I had bought them several days ago. They completed it and they got their reward. I am so proud of them right now. They can be great kids when they want to. So, it's now 7:15pm and they are both bathed. My hubby is watching TV and I am sipping some Relax Moscato, fixing to shower. I got the laundry and dishes done early today and other chores, so I might actually have a bit of time for myself this evening.
While I was outside today, I noticed that my mums kept falling over. I had to put large rocks all around them to hold the pots up from the wind. Fall is coming and the wind is quite strong today, but really nice and relaxing. We only used the AC from like 10am to 6pm today. I am looking forward to a lower electric bill each month. I am already saving around $ 75 per month in laundry expenses by using my green Laundry Alternative machine most days. It is more time consuming, but I know where my laundry has been after it has been washed, unlike when you use a laundry mat machine. Also, it is better for the environment, less expensive, and I can avoid the laundry mat for often. I cannot stand when people come in to wash shit while complaining that they have bed bugs. GROSS! Who wants to use a machine after someone with those? Not me.
Last night I ordered a few things on Amazon. I ordered our daughter an American Girls book about puberty and my son a book about Boys and puberty. I may put them up for a while, if I look at them and think they are not ready for some of it, but I wanted to have them on hand for when the time is right. I know that public schools usually teach those things around 5th grade. Anyway, both books plus shipping was only $10 because I found them in good used condition. I try to get many of their school curriculum used as well. Many of the public school books are over $50 each new, but used is usually way less, like $5 per book plus shipping. It makes it stupid to pay full price for them. So, my hubby is off the next 2 nights, so I plan to enjoy his company. Thanks for reading my blog!

Crappy Day with Pics...

The kids begged me for donuts and so I took them to Winchell's Donuts a few blocks away off of 7th street in Victorville, CA. While I'm inside this idiot decides not to park in a normal parking space, but to park on the side of the road just outside of the lot behind my huge truck. Not only is the parking lot that I'm parked in very narrow and hard to back a truck out of, but I cannot see the small car behind me at all in my rearview mirror. I back up and hear a crunching sound. Shit. I get out to see this Hispanic women upset that I backed into her car. Needless to say, I was quite pissed she was parked behind me in the road. It was obvious that she had been to lazy to park in a normal place. So, she asked for my insurance information and I told her that I had called to police and I wanted to wait for them. She tried twice to get my info and leave, but I told her that I wanted to wait on the police because she was parked behind me in the street and not in the parking lot like everyone else. I told her that my truck was huge and that I could not even see the roof of her truck from the driver's seat. She was irritable, but we waited 1 1/2 hours on the police. After an hour they showed up but then drove off in some emergency and then returned again.
Evidentally, according to the police, the street that she had parked on was not maintained by the city and so she was legal to park there. The cop didn't feel that it was right that she did it, nor did my insurance company. There were no tickets written at least and no one was hurt, but it really did piss me off. Plus, the kids and I had to set in the heat for nearly 2 hours waiting on the police to show up.
So, I get home and get my laundry that has been in the RV park washing machine the entire time I was gone and get the kids started on schoolwork, when Caleb takes his ADHD meds and then drops like 10 of them into the kitchen sink. My daughter and I are grabbing them out and laid them on a cloth to dry. I'm wondering what else can go wrong today?
Lastly, the kids found a blob of owl poo outside yesterday and disected it to find animal bones in it from what the owl had eaten. I have included a pic of that science activity on here, as well as one of my puppy's new pjs and a pic of my truck and the car in the street ( there were vehicles on both sides of me blocking me from turning out sharp as I was leaving). Lastly, there is a pic of the kids new bedroom rugs. Let me know what you think, add a comment and enjoy!

Busy and tired, but happy.

Today I had to get up and get stuff done around the RV so that the kids and I could make it to pick up my son's monthly prescription from his doctor's office here today before they closed at noon. Got that and dropped it off at Walgreens. While we waited on it getting filled, we walked around looking at clearance items. I got each of us a back-up pair of beach flip flops for 50% off. Then I got the kids each a dart gun on clearance and a each a Webkins stuffed animal on clearance. The Webkins were regularly $10 each, but at 75% off, I got them each for only $2.50.  The dart guns were normally $8 each, but I got them for only $1.99 each. Then we got his meds and left.
Next, my daughter and I ran over to Fantastic Sams and got our hair trimmed, which was way overdue. After that, we came home and then I stressed about the laundry and homeschooling.
This evening I have been making sure kids are bathed, homeschool work is done, house chores get done, pets are cared for, and bills are paid. Don't get me wrong, I love being a stay-at-home/ traveling and homeschooling full-time RVing mom, but some days are harder then others. It seems that if I have to do errands, like pick up meds or groceries, then I get behind and stressed. Such is life.
So, we didn't get a hike in today, but I am still planning on it soon. The only outside time the kids got today was attempting to make a trap to catch a stray pregnant cat outside so it can be taken to the Humane Society before having it's kittens. They were using a bucket, string and a few pieces of lunch meat. (lol)
Well, it is already 11pm, so I better end this for tonight. I am hoping for a longer more exciting blog for tomorrow! We will see! Thank you guys for following us!

Park Day, Future Plans & RV Bath

Today, the kids and I went to the park to meet up with the other homeschooling families. There weren't very many who showed up, but I met a couple who I felt we had quite a lot in common with. They also had plans for aquaponics and trying to live of the grid one day, as we do. We are planning to get together in the near future.
Also, the kids finished two days of school in a few of their subjects and then the kids helped me wash the outside of the RV before it got dark. It was a big job, but the RV really needed it. I caught up the laundry with the hand crank "green" washer and unfortunately because I got it done so last, it will have to stay out on the dryer racks overnight. I suppose better late then never.
So, my hubby made homemade caramel last night and tomorrow we are gonna have caramel apples for a fun snack. He and I were talking today about whether or not we want to go to OK and then NY, or just head back to NorCal in Eureka, CA next. We are worried about returning to the deep south because the last time we went back there for a job, the pay sucked! Also, the kids don't want to leave California because Camp Quest West is here and there aren't any Camp Quests' in Oklahoma or New York. I tried to tell them that they would get to visit their meme in Arkansas and get the see Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, etc., but they were willing to give all that up for camp again next summer. I told my hubby that we should wait until one month is up and then he can apply to both places, see what they have to offer for pay, and then we can make an educated decision for the family. I don't think that we can really make a good decision until we have to facts and comparisons right in front of us.
I don't have any new pics to share today, but I am planning to take the kids hiking across the road in a day or two and will be taking fun pics then to share. Thanks for following our blog!

Campfire tales and future plans

We had a wonderful campfire outside this evening. Our really nice neighbor was able to join us and we all enjoyed roasting hotdogs and having conversations about our travels. It was very interesting listening to him discuss his childhood in Hong Kong. We talked about some of the places we had been as well and more about the area here...the coyotes around the park, the annoying stray cats, homeless, crime, bad areas in L.A, etc. He confirmed our ideas about why the helicopters are always flying over....they are monitoring the areas where the homeless and those people with ankle bracelets living around the bridge behind the RV park. At least we know that they are being watched. I don't think hiking around behide the RV park is very safe for the kids and I anymore. I will stick to the RV park, public parks and maybe hiking in more open areas from now on.
So, while we were enjoying the fire, we could hear the coyotes around us, but they didn't sound like they were screaming like when we were here a few years ago. They sounded more like just big dogs barking this time and so it wasn't scary like it used to be. Supposedly, the last time we were here, people were feeding them from the RV park and so they would come really close to the park often. They stopped feeding them and so they aren't coming quite as close right now, which is a bit of a comfort to know. We could see their eyes glowing whenever we went outside the last time we were here.
So, my hubby called his recruiter today and they discussed the possibility of traveling to Oklahoma City for winter to stay until Spring. I'm thinking, omg, back to the deep south, tornados and the Bible belt, but we would be able to visit a few family members and friends while we are there. After that, he says that in the spring we could look into a contract near New York City for the Spring/Summer. He doesn't think that staying in NY for the winter would be a good idea. After that, maybe returning to OK and then after that maybe back to CA. But, if that plan doesn't work, we can always so back to Northern Cali as a back up plan. We have been thinking about settling down near Flagstaff, Arizona eventually, but the travel jobs there have poor pay. In AZ, we could have the wind turbines, solar panels, and an aquaponics system.
On a last note, today I got more free educational stuff for my kids today from NOAA weather in the mail. There was so much more then I expected...two hardcover books, many workbooks, dvds, etc. I had a huge binder full of stuff on various storms, coastal areas, and ecology. It was really neat and the kids were excited. Well, tomorrow is the local homeschool park day for the kids, so I better end this blog for now. Above is a pic of all the stuff we got from NOAA today. Thanks for following us!!!

Fun day in the valley!

Today we spent the day the Rancho Cucamonga. We walked the entire Victoria gardens outdoor mall. We walked all around Bass Pro. Afterwards, we enjoyed dinner at my hubby's favorite place, Boston Market. He hadn't been there in over a year so he really liked it. We are now on our way home and just beat the rush traffic. While we were out, the kids each got an Angry Birds Space shirt on clearance for $5 and a pair of pj pants on clearance. We found our son a new jacket on sell which is good because his old one has a broken zipper. In Bass Pro, I got 2 clearance tops, one long sleeve and one short. We were careful with what we spent, but still had a good time. Here are some pics from our fun day below....enjoy! (one is just of valley smog)

Sewer Gnats and We Have a Winner !!!

Today we got to deal with a really gross problem. We have two bathrooms in our RV and the each time the kids flush the toilet in their bathroom during the past few days, gnats would come flying up outta it. Needless to say, we decided to try a home remedy last night to get rid them using an apple cider vinegar trap. That didn't work well. So, today after I got our laundry caught up, we went to an RV parts store and got much stronger RV toilet cleaner then we normally use. We normally use a more natural cleaner, but that just wasn't cutting it anymore. The RV store guys told us that sewer gnats are a common problem here and pointed us to the right products. They are poisonous and super strong. So, we flushed the sewage outlets out super well and then we put the strong chemicals in. It works like a charm and no more gnats coming outta the toilet. I am so glad because I that was a nasty problem to have. My hubby and I were enjoying a nice relaxing glass of wine last night and a nasty gnat flew into his drink. I was like, "We are gonna have to do something about this. This is really gross!". So, we had never had this problem before here, so we were clue less that something like that can happen, but they can breed inside your RV's black tank, and mainly in warm or hot climates.
On a more pleasant note, lol, we went to dinner at Oggi's and they were having a raffle for prizes and we were given 4 tickets as we came into the door. They called my son's number and he won 2 free movie passes and a radio station t-shirt. They congratulated him in front of the restaurant by name and said, "Looks like we have a mini winner!". He was so excited.
Tomorrow, we are going to do something really special and drive 30 min. to San Bernardino and Rancho Cucamonga to walk the outside mall, have lunch at Boston Market, and walk around Bass Pro for the hubby. It has been a long time since I have shopped at a mall for anything. I used to love shopping for fun when I was working full time. It was like stress relief for me, but now, unless my family is all with me, I don't like it. My favorite times are with my family. I suppose another reason I hate clothes shopping is that 1/2 the shit I try on doesn't fit. That is a major self esteem blower. So, good night guys. Thanks for visiting my blog! I will update you on how our trip goes tomorrow when I return.

Movie and Mums

Today we took the kids to see ParaNorman at the movie theater. It was really cute and had a good lesson to teach. After that we went to Lowe's and got two large mums, one yellow and one read. They are so pretty. We are thinking about going to the valley tomorrow (San Bernardino) to walk around the outdoor mall and maybe have lunch at Boston Market. It's my hubby's favorite restaurant and he hasn't gotten to go there for like a year and a half. If we decided not to go, then we will just stay here and I will get to go to the laundry mat and wash rugs. Maybe we can go to the pool for a bit. Either way, it will be fine. So, I made a cherry chip cake last night and we are all having a piece with some cherry ice cream. I picked the 4 ripe tomatoes off one of my plants today. Yum. I am going to attach a pic of our min pin, Cali, wearing her pjs, a pic that Ashley, my daughter painted of a zombie and my new mums. Enjoy!

Halloween Costumes & Baby Tortoise Scare

So, the kids got their homeschool work done early today, by 2:00pm and so they got to go to Target and pick out their Halloween costume after that as a reward. They both wanted Scream costumes with bloody face pumps. They are really creepy, lol. So, they tried them on to make sure they fit and then I put them put until time to wear them. We ate mexican for dinner and I'm now sipping a glass of Chill Out Moscato...yum. The kids got the night time reading books in the mail today for me to read to them at bedtime. They love that special mommy time.
We had a bit of a scare today. I took the baby tortoises out mid day today and one of them got over heated and started bubbling at the mouth. I took them in and put them to soak in some drinking water. It stopped panting and bubbling and calmed down. Now it is back to normal and I now know never to take them out unless it is early in the morning or in the evening. Poor little guy.
My hubby is off work for the next six nights, so he is going to enjoy that. Tomorrow evening after the sun goes down, I will bake a cake. It's still too hot to bake inside during the day. I don't like it really warm inside during summer time. Good night everyone!

Park Day, Chores, Etc..

I helped the kids with their math homeschool work this morning, did the laundry and then took them to Park Day in Hesperia. They played there from 12:30 to 2:30 with local homeschooled friends. I decided to take Cali to the park today also. She did better this time then the first time I took her. Last time she barked a lot at everybody, but today, although nervous around others, she didn't bark or anything. She was funny and dug several little holes in the grass and then she would rub her neck around in the grass...like she was massaging herself. People were laughing.
So, when we got home, I just threw together and sorta sad dinner with whatever was around the kitchen. I need to go to the grocery store tomorrow. Tonight is my hubby's last night to work and then he is off for six nights !!! I can't wait because I am ready to spend some quality time with him, as I know the kids and pups are also. So, I watered the plants and once again..the homeless are walking up and down next to the RV on the sandy road. I do wish I knew what they were up to. It's more curiosity then anything else.
Last night, I ordered even more free teacher stuff for the kids to do on those rainy days and a few more free posters from various organizations for the kids. One was from NASA, one was from UrbanBirds and another was an ocean scene. I will probably end up getting like 25+ packages of free educational stuff in the mail. Cool.
So, I guess I need to get off here and finish the last two subjects of the day with the kiddos, Zoology II and Art. I leave you with a pic of my puppy, Cali, after going to park day. She is SO wore out....lol. Also, one of the kids working on their homeschool work yesterday.
